Medicine Teaching

Our department was established in 2017 and Prof Si Si Tun is the first and foremost head of our department.

We are now teaching the undergraduate students to become competent doctors in accordance with old curriculum of our university which include:

  • Third M.B.,B.S students
  • Final Part 1 M.B.,B.S students and
  • Final Part 2 M.B.,B.S students

Third year MBBS:

Two-week introduction course is given at the beginning of the posting. Then the students are posted to medical wards in teaching hospitals for 15weeks. During this period, they learn history taking and clinical methods and communication skills. At the end of posting, two clinical test and one history taking test (total three tests) are conducted.

Final Part I MBBS:

During 7 weeks of medical posting, the following subjects are covered by Medical department-

  1. Mental Health
  2. TB
  3. Special Skin (Dermatology)
  4. STD
  5. X-ray and ECG

At the end of posting, 10 Pictures Quiz for medical related specialized above subjects are conducted.

Final Part II MBBS:

During the block posting, morning sessions comprise bed-side teaching, ward round, small group discussions and evening sessions include bed-side teaching, lectures, seminars and X-rays readings. One theory test (6 MSQs & MCQs) is conducted in the middle of posting period (Mid-term test). Second theory test (6 MSQs & 60 MCQs) along with OSCE is conducted at the end of the posting period. At the final evaluation, a qualifying examination consisting of two theory papers and OSCE is held.

Our medical universities are determined to adapt new curriculum for our students according to the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) accrediting process.

Our department and faculty members are now actively participating in preparing and adapting the new integrated curriculum for our students which include that the subject of medicine will be introduced, made familiar and learnt from year 1 to year 5.

Medicine Care

Our department also reside in Sao San Htun hospital which is the 500 bedded and state hospital of Shan State.

  • We give in-patient care to the patients in three wards daily.
  • Out patient care take place in Monday, Tuesday and Thursday a week.
  • Diabetic patients attend separate diabetic clinic in Fridays.
  • HIV patients are seen by our faculty members in Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Special MDR TB patients are taken care by our head herself once a month.
