Level Objectives

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to demonstrate:

  1. comprehension of deviations from normal structure and functions in relation to the health of individual and community so as to enable the development of a management plan.
  2. understanding of the impact of the disease process on the individual, family and the community, the behavioral responses in each case to such illness and the principles of intervention.
  3. a critical understanding of the plans and programmes of the health sector and other sectors to meet the health problems of individual, family and community.
  4. ability to conduct appropriate physical, biochemical, pathological and microbiological tests and investigations to detect the deviation from the normal structure and functions.
  5. understanding of the specific changes in organs and organ systems caused by aging, trauma, stress, bacteria, viruses, chemicals and drugs and the basic principles of managing these deviations.
  6. requisite knowledge and skills to undertake the responsibilities of the medical profession and medical practice in relation to the law.
  7. interest and ability to educate the individual patients, their families and the community in matters related to health promotion and disease prevention and disability rehabilitation.
  8. self reliance in planning his own learning, problem solving abilities and critical thinking as shown by his own behavior and
  9. an awareness of medicine as a continuum of the normal, deviations from normal and the correction of deviations, with the greatest emphasis on deviations from normal in this course.

Departmental Objectives

At the end of the courses of instruction, the learner should be able to:

  1. acquire the knowledge of the pathologic basis of diseases with emphasis on common diseases prevalent in Myanmar. (K)
  2. effectively correlate the laboratory data with the clinical manifestations. (K)
  3. describe the morphology of gross specimens of common diseases and arrive at the correct diagnosis. (K)
  4. describe the histological and hematological features of common diseases and arrive at the correct diagnosis. (K)
  5. effectively correlate between the clinical manifestations and autopsy findings. (K)
  6. describe the hematological disorders common in Myanmar with emphasis on preventive measures. (K)
  7. demonstrate/ perform certain basic hematological laboratory procedures. (S)
  8. interpret the laboratory data correctly. (S)
  9. appreciate that pathology forms the basis of all branches of clinical medicine. (A)
  10. appreciate the importance of laboratory findings for the correct diagnosis and proper management of diseases. (A)
  11. appreciate the importance of co-operation and collaboration with other departments in solving the community diseases. (A)
  12. aware that the importance of autopsy findings in arrivint at correct diagnosis of common community diseases. (A)
  13. appreciate that the acquired knowledge of the aetiology and pathologenesis of diseases could be utilized for prevention of certain common endemic and communicable diseases. (A)
  14. appreciate the importance of Pathology in continuing education and research for the advancement of clinical medicine. (A)

    • appreciate the importance of laboratory findings for the correct diagnosis and proper management of diseases including common communicable and non-communicable diseases.
