Assessment

Head of the Departments from the four Medical Universities participate in the formulation of questions and conduct of practical examination (where applicable) and viva voce. External examiners are invited from the other medical universities and from allied universities and departments.

First MBBS Course

Formative Assessment

It comprises weekly practical, practical tests, theory tests, and work assignments.

Summative Assessment

It consists of one 3-hour theory paper, one 3-hour practical paper (where applicable) and a viva voce. A supplementary examination is held after 6 weeks. Only 2 attempts are allowed.

Second MBBS Course

Formative Assessment

It comprises written, practical and viva voce tests.

Summative Assessment

It includes theory, practical and viva-voce examination. Students who pass in one or two subjects are entitled to compartmental privileges in the supplementary examination. Students are allowed three attempts in the Second MBBS examination.

Third MBBS Course

Formative Assessment

It consists of written tutorials, theory, practical, and viva voce test.

Summative Assessment

It comprises theory and practical. Viva voce examination was only for those potential distinction candidates. Compartmental privileges are similar to the second MBBS examination. Only three attempts are allowed in the examination.

Final Part I MBBS Course

Formative Assessment

This comprises written tests, work assignments (for Forensic Medicine, Preventive & Social Medicine), urban and rural training (for Preventive & Social Medicine), practical and viva voce tests (for Pathology)

Summative Assessment

It consists of theory and viva voce examinations, in addition to a practical examination in Pathology. Compartmental privileges and the number of attempts allowed to sit for the examination are as for the second MBBS course.

Final Part II MBBS Course

The Final MBBS Part II examination is held after one academic year. A supplementary examination is held six months after the first examination.
Students who pass in one or more subjects are entitled to compartmental privileges. A total of 3 attempts are allowed.
