The University of Medicine, Taunggyi was established on October 3, 2015 and the Department of Microbiology was set up and opened on January 3rd, 2018. The first Professor and Head is Professor Tin Tin Myint from 3.1.2018 to 8.5.2019. After her retirement, the second Professor and Head is Professor Aye Aye Han from 3.10.2019 up-to now.
The 1st Batch of Third M.B., B.S was started on June, 2018 with 91 students. The 2nd Batch of Third M.B., B.S was started on June, 2019 with 153 students.
The department teaches General Microbiology, Systematic Bacteriology, Virology, Immunology, Medical Parasitology, Medical Entomology, Mycology, Applied Microbiology and Public Health Microbiology to third year undergraduate students. These basics and applied modules will provide the basic concepts of role of microorganisms in infectious diseases. The Microbiology subject take total 210 teaching hours including tutorials and practical. In these teaching hours, we take lectures, discussion and demonstration of practical by using LCD projector. The subject will take four class tests with formative and summative assessment.
