Under Graduate Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the medical students should be able to:

Cognitive Domain

  • understand the concept of Child Health.
  • recognize the major components of Child Health.
  • have a requisite knowledge of common diseases of childhood in Myanmar and their management

Psychomotor Domain

  • have a requisite skill in proper history taking and examination of children.
  • have a requisite skill in basic sciences of community health in approaching the child in the community
  • acquire communication skills in delivering preventive measures and health education

Affective Domain

  • recognize the importance of growth and development
  • recognize the difference between health aspects of the child and adult
  • recognize the importance of delivery of comprehensive health care for the child, family and community
  • recognize the importance of ethics in pediatric practice
  • recognize the importance of continuing medical education

Internship Training (House Officer) Course Objectives

At the end of the course of instruction, House Officers must

Acquire the knowledge of

  • principles of difference between child and adults.
  • principles of normal development and its variations
  • essential facts about common medical problems in childhood.
  • management of childhood problems using primary health care approach. 

Acquire the skill of

  • communicating with the healthy and sick newborn babies, infant, children and their parents.
  • taking careful history.
  • performing thorough physical examination of all systems.
  • performing simple bed side procedures and laboratory procedures.
  • recognizing urgent cases that require referral 
  • managing of common childhood problems, disorders and pediatric emergencies.
  • practicing preventive aspects of child health.
  • delivering appropriate health education regarding common childhood illnesses. 

Acquire the attitude of

  • appreciation of the practice and responsibilities of the various branches of health, social and educational services concerned with care of the healthy, sick, handicapped children.
  • developing an appreciation of the value of maternal and child care.
  • having essential habits of applying scientific methods in approaching and solving problems.
  • accepting the comprehensive health care aspect of children, families and the community.
