Body Donation Program

The persons who want to donate their body after death can register at UMTGI. The formalin-fixed body will be used for studying anatomy by 2nd MBBS students.

Criteria for registration
  • Registration is accepted while the donor is alive
Requirements during registration
  • Identity card (NRC card) and two photos of donor
  • The person must complete the 18 years of age
  • Any race and religion can donate
  • Next of kin and 2 witness persons need to come together with the potential donor.
  • The application form must be filled, singed and witnessed by a person, usually next-of-kin, who will take responsibility for informing the Anatomy Department after the donor death. The admin department will return “dead body donation acknowledgement form” that is to be kept by next of kin.
  • Registration is totally free of charge for every donor.
The following persons are not suitable for registration
  • if the donor is suffering from a communicable disease
  • if the donor has anatomical defects such as a missing limb
After the death of donor
  • When a registered donor dies, it is the responsibility of the next-of-kin to inform the department of anatomy as soon as the death of donors and transfer the dead body to the department within 24 hours for infusion of formalin fixatives.
  • The dead body together with (1) The death certificate, (2) the cemetery certificate and (3) dead body donation acknowledgement has to be taken to the department of Anatomy.
  • The department cannot receive the dead body in some conditions, such as:
    • the cause of death is due to communicable diseases,
    • the body has severely injured,
    • the body is required to do autopsy for any reasons.
  • The dead body is later infused with the formalin fixatives and stored at the department for the further usage in studying whole body anatomy by undergraduate medical students.
  • The infusion of fixatives is totally free of charge and any person do not need to pay for any reasons.
Attitude of department of anatomy to the body donors
  • Since the bodies are donated by good will, the department of anatomy pays reputation and respect to the body donors, values them as “Silent Mentors” and will handle and use it by great honors.
